Medium Isn’t What It Used To Be, But It’s Still One Of The Best Platforms For New Writers

My love-hate relationship with Medium

If you’ve been on Medium for a few years, you know it isn’t what it used to be.

I’ve been an active member of Medium for over three years, and it's sad to say that the platform isn’t the same for writers. Many top writers have left.

I used to admire Medium writers like Jessica Wildfire, Tom Kuegler, Anthony Moore, Nick Wignall, Jon Brosio, Tim Denning, Zulie Rane, Benjamin Hardy, and Jessica Lynn. They inspired me to write on this platform. Reading their work here was a delightful experience, but it no longer exists.

Most of these writers have quit the platform and joined Substack, Ghost, YouTube, etc. The common reason for this is that Medium hasn’t provided the outcome it used to. These writers used to receive thousands of views with over 10k claps in most of their viral stories. Top writers made $4000 — $5000 monthly.

I hardly find Medium prioritizing excellent writing anymore. Instead, they manually separate good writing from average writing. Even boosted articles don’t attract much attention anymore.
