I remember the day I took full responsibility for my life. It felt like I had grown up, and that decision made me a better person almost instantly. I regained the power I had, but didn’t know.

Whatever happens to me, it’s my fault. If I lose money, that’s on me. If my health is bad, it’s my fault. If my partner wants to break up, it’s because of me.

It sounds like blame and a bit harsh. But that’s a fact everyone should be aware of. Also, it creates an awareness that your life is within your control, which is a good thing.

Whenever bad things happen to us, we start blaming others — our parents, employers, friends, and partners. Sometimes, it’s also the economy, social media algorithms, followers, and others that make us feel the way we do. Blame feels good temporarily, but it removes your ability to change everything. Remember, when everything is someone else’s fault, nothing is within your control.

Often, we also blame circumstances.

  • “I didn’t grow up with the right opportunities.”
  • “My environment isn’t supportive.”
  • “Things are harder for me.”
